"The Open Window" Vera's Characterization Paragraph
Never judge a book by its cover, because it just might surprise you what you may find out. Vera looks like your average fifteen year old girl; nothing really stands out about her. She’s the type of girl who wouldn’t have many friends. She doesn’t “fit in” with most crowds. She’s her own crowd. This causes her to get wrapped up in her own little world. She’s developed quite the imagination over her lifetime thus far. This is how she gets the attention she hungers and yearns for. While growing up, she was probably teased or singled out of activities which made her sour against other people’s feelings, since hers were never considered. She puts on different faces with every new person that she meets, and makes up absurd stories to get a rise out of them. It’s done for her own personal enjoyment because she thinks it’s just a harmless joke or just a little tease, but it gets out of hand. She played a joke on Mr.Nuttle who has to be the most nervous, timid and emotionally unstable man you could ever come across. She could sense the tension pulsing from the nervous man and she decided to play around with his emotions anyway. She’s extremely immature and she doesn’t take responsibility for her actions. You just can’t keep up with the lies that come out of her mouth. The poor girl just needs friends or at least one true friend to pull her back to reality. Until then, her stories and outrageous accusations will have to be put up with by her family, but most of all not taken too seriously. Vera is just a lost girl trying to figure out who she is, and all she wants is to be liked and accepted like any other teen in todays messed up society.
