[“Save the Moon for Kerdy Dickus”- Written as the Stranger]
Joni Quick
Bernie handed me another beer. I lost track of how many he pushed at me. Dad is pretty drunk, don’t got any idea how many drinks he had, but he insists on drivin’ home. He got into the driver’s seat of the old beat up chev and starts up the ancient beast. Oh he ain’t lookin’ to good, then again neither am I, and I sure as heck don’t feel too good. The truck starts movin’ and dad unsteadily steers onto the highway, stompin’ on the gas pedal forcin’ the old gal to its limits. I don’t got a good feelin’ about this, but I don’t got no energy to fight about it and my brain is fightin against me. Then that’s when it happens.
It’s rainin’, not no normal rain ‘cuz it’s winter and its cold. It’s icy. But the light, well that bright glowin’ light is like a magnet. I can’t keep my eyes off it. It’s slippery and my worn down runners ain’t got no grip on the slick ice. The light needs me, it’s calling my name or somethin’, and I want it all to myself.
I finally reach it and I can’t stop starin’, I never seen nothin’ like it ‘fore. Theres a voice now, a sweet cheerful kinda voice. Then I see a petite lil’ figure standin’ there. “Come, come in out of the rain!” the light calls me. I take a step. The wind picks me up and drops me back on the ice, not nicely either. My butts throbbin’ and I curse the cold, but get up and start walkin’ anyways. It’s worth it. I made It to the opening in the light somehow. My black hair dripped around my face like the leaky faucet back home. Where am I? Suddenly something wrapped itself around me, huggin my body tight. I turn around and 3,no 5, creatures were staring at me, maybe there are more I can’t tell,. They talk funny, I can’t understand em’ and they’re all in red. Who are they? One grabbed me and led me deeper into the light, the beautiful light. All of a sudden the light transformed ‘round shapes and a bunch of stuff. One of them creatures, the one with the slanted eyes and long tail hanging from the back of its head gave me a small cup filled with a funny smelling liquid in it. I figured I’d try it; it’s not every day when funny lookin’ creatures give yah somethin’ to drink. Oh it couldn’t hurt. A bitter taste wrapped itself throughout my mouth. It burned the roof of my mouth as it slid down the back of my throat and I gagged. Then a thought hit me, where am I? Why am I here? Where’s dad? “Dads in the
truck,” I ‘membered. “Oh my god,” the short haired creature said. She wanted to
go get him but I won’t let ‘em take him. I told her he’s ok, the trucks warm
anyways. Everyone watched me, like I was their helpless prey and they were the predators. The ponytailed creature flipped somethin’ in a pan. “Where’m I?” the short haired creature poured somethin’ into my cup. “The fifth line” it told me. The fifth, what does that mean? A loud noise made me jump. A Loud beeping that’s what it was. I spilled the scorchin’ liquid everywhere, but had no feeling in my body to react. Two ‘lil creatures jumped at me with cloths, and I felt surrounded. Lights started flashin’, these lights made me uneasy. They tried sayin’ somethin’ to me, but I couldn’t here nothin’. Oh man, I’m not in no normal place. Where am I? This place is round, like a ball or something, The lights spun ‘round me; It makes me uneasy. Their tryin’ to get me, but I can’t let em.
“You know Bernie? ” I asked ‘em. “Cards, drinks, Christmas…” How do they not know Bernie? I looked ‘round some more. “What is this place?” They just laughed at me and the Ponytailed creature put somethin’ in front of me. It smelled funny. Do I eat it or do I not? They keep watching me, while givin’ me funny looks.
“Saw your light there,” I squinted at all the lights “Slid right out.” I could see their mouths movin’ but I couldn’t hear the words. The short haired creature mentioned something about Anita. Who’s Anita? I don’t know an Anita. The creatures made weird chucklin’ noises at me. I need to leave; now.
Next thing I know they took my clothes, I’m wrapped in some sheet naked. I caught a whiff of the strange item the ponytailed creature gave me before and my stomach flipped. I was drawn to it all of a sudden; hungry. I shoved it into my mouth and ain’t never tasted nothin’ like it before. Sweet, Sour, salty and bitter tastes exploded in my mouth. I downed two more helpings and my stomach ached for more, then I started to feel odd. Something wasn’t right. The teenage lookin’ creature said somethin’ to me, somethin’ that could alter all mankind. Then that’s when everythin’ wasn’t clear anymore. They had me.
I woke up early this mornin’ and had no recollection of the day before. All I knew is that I had a poundin’ headache followed by a mighty sickness. But this all changed a few days later.
Everythin’ came rushin’ back to me in an instant. At first I thought it was all a dream but eventually the pieces all clicked together. After having drinks with Bernie and dad, I was abducted by aliens. Mama called the specialists and they said what I went through wasn’t normal. My sickness, bruises, loss of memory and now my recollection of the experience explains it all. Dad and I were pulled off the road by the laser beams, I protected dad and let them take me instead. They hypnotized me and brought me to their saucer. The functionin’ of my body was altered so I couldn’t fight back. They made me drink weird drugs and eat strange things, which made me sick for days. I’m covered in them bruises. I think they were experimentin’ on my poor human body. The aliens told me news that is changin’ my life and eventually the whole entire world will be affected. “Save the moon for Kerdy Dickus”. Who’s Kerdy Dickus? What does this even mean? Them specialists my mama hired, are trying to figure it out. They interview me and watch me pretty much 24/7. They began to make some more progress and the pieces were comin’ together quite nicely until I received a letter from Ky Mori, on January 5th. This letter was a roadblock in finding out the complete truth. It changed everything in an instant, once again.
